Featured Brewer: Boscos Restaurant and Brewing Company

Toast to Heal Hearts is excited to add craft beer to the tasting this year and is thrilled to welcome Boscos Restaurant and Brewing Company to the event as our featured craft brewer.

Boscos opened in Germantown, Tennessee, in 1992, the first post-prohibition restaurant brewery in Tennessee. Since opening, Boscos has garnered numerous awards for their craft brews, including the prestigious 2012 World Beer Cup Gold Medal for “Boscos Hefeweizen!”

Boscos has long been recognized as a craft brewing innovator and pioneer. Boscos Brewing Company's head brewer and co-founder Chuck Skypeck was awarded the Brewers Association Recognition Award, the craft brewing industry's highest individual award for contributions to craft brewing. Other awards for innovation include two gold medals from the prestigious Great American Beer Festival in the competitive “Experimental Beer Category” as well as national acclaim for the development and brewing of a traditional Stone, or “Steinbeer.”

According to Boscos head brewer who is certainly an expert on the topic, craft brewing is all about freshness and variety. On average, Boscos has on tap a new beer every week or two, brewing 50 styles of beer each year. It is this variety and excellence that has brought Boscos such acclaim.

Wadfords Cigar Bar Makes Debut at Toast to Heal Hearts

Glen and Donna Waford, owners of Wadfords Cigar Bar, are excited be part of this year’s Toast to Heal Hearts. To add to the unique atmosphere of the event, Wadfords will have available a fantastic variety of cigars to be enjoyed by our guests.

Glen and Donna created their cigar bar to compliment Wadfords Grill and Bar, their restaurant in Southaven. With the adjoining cigar bar, Wadfords is more than a place to enjoy an excellent meal – it is a place to catch up with old friends, meet new ones, close business deals, and celebrate family milestones. Another hallmark feature of Wadfords is the wonderful live acoustical music performed by local artists and enjoyed by guests and friends.

For the cigar aficionado, the addition of Wadfords to Toast to Heal Hearts is yet another reason to make the most of the evening and support Healing Hearts Child Advocacy Center with your presence and your generosity. We are giving the children of DeSoto County a voice as we our support the CAC!

All cigars will be enjoyed in the smoking tent on the north lawn of the Banks House.

Featured Vinter: Grapevine Liquor & Wine

Toast to Heal Hearts is privileged to have Jimmy Tharp, owner of Grapevine Liquor & Wine, return to the event as our featured vintner. At this year’s Toast to Heal Hearts, we will sample both white and red wines carefully chosen by Jimmy. These selections will include unique varietals which will make wonderful additions to any wine repertoire.

With Grapevine Liquor & Wine, Jimmy continues a longstanding family tradition, creating an atmosphere of friendly customer service where Jimmy makes a point of treating his patrons like family, striving to get to know each of them by name. Jimmy attributes his interest in establishing a premier liquor and wine establishment to his grandfather, one of the first liquor store owners in the state of Mississippi.

Featured Chef: Marcus Lockett

Toast to Heal Hearts is delighted to have Marcus Lockett, Executive Chef at Southaven’s Mesquite Chop House, as the caterer for this year’s craft beer and wine tasting. Marcus is no stranger to tasting events and is well versed in pairing delightful and tantalizing dishes to compliment both wines and craft brews.

For our craft brews, Marcus has suggested tasty treats such as caprese pops consisting of mozzarella stuffed fresh cherry tomatoes with fresh basil and a sweet balsamic reduction as well as delicious sour cream and black bean salsa served on top of sweet potato cakes.

For the white wine selection, Marcus will prepare fruit and cheese including perfectly aged cheeses from different parts of the country served with assorted crackers, fresh grapes, strawberries and apples. To compliment the red wine, Marcus will offer something along the lines of sesame chicken wonton cups filled with sautéed chicken, peppers, onions and spices stuffed inside a crispy wonton.

If the wine offering calls for something sweet, Marcus is ready with cheesecake stuffed strawberries or mini carrot cake bites. So don’t miss out on the delicious pairings that will absolutely compliment the fabulous beverages to be sampled at this year’s Toast to Heal Hearts.
